Beginner’s Guide to Hemp Paper
When people think of environmental damage, they typically think of factories spewing smoke or pollution caused by cars and trucks. They probably don’t stop to think of the damage caused by the newspaper they are reading or the flyers posted to their door.
While more paper is made from recycled material, the fact is it still takes a lot of energy to create paper. Furthermore, a lot of it comes from forests, jungles, wetlands, and other resources that are not easily sustainable.
However, there is an alternative that is less damaging to our natural surroundings. Hemp paper is made from commercially-grown hemp. Bizarrely, the very first forms of paper were made from the material and it is actually better than the traditional paper products that are formed from trees, because of its higher cellulose and lower lignin content.
Furthermore, hemp is more sustainable due to the fact that the plant can be grown a lot quicker than the trees that are typically used in any paper production on a large scale. As with any product, it all comes down to greater awareness, supply, and demand. If more people demanded this, then our paper usage could become considerably more environmentally-friendly.
